Allies Working Quarterly Meeting @ Great Legs Winery Brewery Distillery

Join on Tuesday, August 7 from 6:30 – 8pm for this quarterly meeting of Allies Working. For this event, we will have guest speakers Maybank Kapufi and Clementine Sikiri, who will each share their knowledge and experiences regarding refugees in the United States.

Maybank Kapufi is a clinical supervisor for Kent County and trains Grand Rapids Public Schools teachers and parents of students on trauma acculturation and challenges faced by refugees in the United States. He previously worked with the YMCA Refugee Project for five years in Zambia. During this time, he traveled to 52 countries to talk about human rights for refugees and participated in multiple relief programs.

Clementine Sikiri has been a refugee herself, originally fleeing from the Congo to Rwanda in 1996, and coming to Grand Rapids, MI in June 2003. She will share her story and speak about what it is like to be a refugee in the United States.
